War in Ukraine as a bifurcation point in global development: rhyming with the past versus creating the future

In this article, prepared as part of the creative discussion on problems raised in Sergio Mariotti's paper regarding various global economic aspects related to Russian-Ukrainian war, author argues that, despite obvious tendencies towards greater protectionism, one should not excessively expand meaning term "protectionism" thus concealing recent trends direct government interventionism functioning international markets, which makes very concept "free market" increasingly conditional.
